Alexander MacFaul has studied at Chelsea College of Art and Camberwell College of Arts. In 2000 he was awarded an MA in Fine Art from Canterbury Christ Church University College.
His work is inspired by the urban environment, and in particular the life of cities after dark.
"In my paintings I seek to combine the physicality of what I see, with my own emotional response to the subject. It is through capturing the atmosphere and mood of the subject that the paintings come to life. I want the finished paintings to take me right back to certain time and place, essentially capturing through paint a fleeting but significant experience of somewhere.
"For me, as an artist, the city is a place of infinite possibilities in terms of painting. It is exciting, mysterious and often beautiful. The more I explore it, the more fascinating it gets."
